Chickweed Oil (Stella Medica) Chickweed was praised by most medieval herbalists as an excellent anti-inflammatory medicinal herb. It is said to have been taken to North America by the Puritan immigrants. It is also found in Central and South America. Chickweed Poultices are still used to combat rheumatism by people who continue to use folk remedies and is widely used in Anti-Itching Creams by herbalists. Properties of the whole Chickweed plant are that it is: anti-inflammatory; anti-rheumatic; astringent (causes contraction of tissue, restraining discharges); demulcent (soothes irritated, inflamed or injured surfaces); depurative (eliminates toxins and purifies the system, especially the blood); discutient (disperses morbid matter); diuretic (tending to increase the discharge of urine); febrifuge (reduces fever, also called refrigerant) and vulnerary (used in the healing and treatment of wounds).
